The topic that everyone is talking about which came out of the 2024 Australian grand prix was Williams taking Logan Sargent out of the race. Williams gave Logan’s car to Alex Albon after Albon crashed and destroyed his own car. People were outraged at the news and did not understand why James Vowles would do this after releasing a video prior in the year saying they had full complete faith in Logan Sargent. 

So, Who is Logan Sargent? He is the only American F1 driver who is in his second year with Williams. His first year as a F1 driver was the 2023 season and he finished in last place out of all the drivers. He scored one point out of the 22 races that were held last season. People did not think Williams would keep Sargent after that season and were preparing for it to be Sargent’s first and last season in F1. 

The F1 community were surprised when James Vowles posted a video talking about how Logan would be their 2nd driver for the 2024 season and still had a place on their team. He was willing to give Sargent another chance to prove himself and had complete faith that he would. 

This second to last weekend in March was the Australian Grand Prix and many F1 fans were excited for this track. It usually holds lots of action and drama between the teams and it did not disappoint. 

During Free Practice One, Alex Albon crashed completely destroying his car. The Chassis from Alex’s car was non fixable and Williams did not have another spare Chassis. They had to send the car back to England so they could get the car ready for the Japan Grand Prix. With only one car, Williams made the hard decision to take Sargent out of the race and put Alex back into it. 

Alex Albon does have more years in F1 and has scored more points than Logan, but many people were shocked Williams didn’t leave Alex out of the race since he was the one who crashed the car. People were saying how unfair it is that they are punishing Logan for Alex’s mistake. In the end, Alex did not end up scoring points even though that was the whole reason they took Logan out of the race. 

Other people have been talking about how unfair F1 is in general and this is just a normal race weekend in the sport. 

F1 does have a record of being unfair. Last season, Nyck De Vries was replaced mid season by Daniel Riccardo. Even Alex Albon has had a taste of how unfair F1 is after being demoted from Red Bull Racing after not delivering in the 2019 season. 

People believe Logan Sargent should be grateful that he even has a seat after how poorly he did last season. Williams is giving Sargent one last chance to prove himself and he needs to deliver in order to stay in F1 for another season.
