When a person thinks of race cars they usually think of the iconic Ferrari red. No matter how old or young you are, we grew up with race cars being red and Ferrari’s success in the racing industry is to be blamed for that. 

Ferrari was founded in 1939 in Maranello, Italy by Enzo Ferrari. The company built its first car in 1940 and by 1947, Ferrari had a whole line of cars. The company’s history goes even further back to it’s racing days. 

On September 13th, 1929, the Scuderia Ferrari racing team was founded. The team used Alfa Romeo cars for about ten years and even Enzo Ferrari raced in the cars. But it all changed when Alfa Romeo changed their policies and Enzo left in 1939 to start making his own cars. 

Ferrari raced in Grand Prixs all over Europe until Formula 1 started in 1950. Ferrari joined the F1 World Championship Series and has been connected with it ever since. They are one of the only teams to have competed in every season since the start of F1. 

The team has 16 Driver and Constructors Championships to their name which is the most Championships any team has. Some famous drivers have driven for Ferrari like Niki Lauda, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, and Sebastian Vettel. 

For the past couple of years, Ferrari has not been doing the best in F1. They have had a lot of problems with their car and their strategies have not been very good. In the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, the two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Saniz, were 1 and 2 on the grid. Ferrari had every chance to win this grand prix with both of their drivers starting at the front of the grid. But the opposite happened, Saniz came in for a pit stop and they also called Leclerc in too. They tried to not have Leclerc come in but it was too late. Leclerc sat in the pit lane until they finished with Saniz. Leclerc total pit stop time came out to 53 seconds which should only be in the 25 second range. This mess up cost Leclerc to come in 4th when he could have had a podium finish. 

Although Ferrari have not had the best couple of years, they are still finishing in the top 3 for Constructor’s Championships and both drivers keep getting on the podiums. In the 2024 season, Saniz and Leclerc have both been on the podium already and they keep qualifying well. The team still has a lot of work that needs to be done for them to catch up to Red Bull, but I feel like they will continue to improve. 

I hope Ferrari can bring some updates to their car this season in order to compete with Red Bull better and hopefully bring a Driver or Constructors Championship home.
